Regular ingestion of arsenic causes things like organ damage, skin lesions, and an early grave. Women were nibbling on toxic wafers for translucent skin while the beauty industry called it wellness. So the next time a nail technician applies your gel slightly thicker than requested, remember that at least nobody is asking you to eat anything.

Here is something the beauty industry does not advertise loudly enough: becoming a licensed manicurist is really hard. You need real, formal qualifications to legally work on someone's nails, which makes the fails in this list even worse. Even Amanda Bynes enrolled in cosmetology school in 2022 and failed her written board exam at least three to four times.

It’s not necessary to know everything about your partner’s past

While it’s not something that a lot of people want to dwell on, the vast majority of us have some sort of dating history before we get married. Unless you propose to your high school sweetheart, or you get lucky and find “the one” on your first try, you’ve got some exes out there and some stories that you might not feel comfortable telling your partner.

According to a 2024 survey, the average person will go through about 3.7 serious relationships before finding their person. And there’s absolutely no shame in that. Dating helps you understand yourself, what you want in a relationship, how to make compromises and problem solve, and how to prepare yourself for eventually settling down with someone long-term.

Each person can decide just how much they want to share or conceal about previous partners, but in general, it’s probably safe to assume that your partner won’t want to know every little detail. The past is the past, and you won’t want to dig it up if it can hinder your future.

But it is important to be able to trust what your partner tells you about their history. If they say, for example, that they were never more than friends with any particular person, you should be able to believe them.   

We all know that trust is crucial in any healthy relationship, but it’s even more important to ensure that it’s there before tying the knot. Evolution Psychotherapy explains that trust allows partners to feel safe and emotionally secure, allows them to communicate openly, and allows them to rely on each other during easy and difficult times. 

Clearly, this trust isn’t formed overnight. It can take a long time to build a strong foundation of trust, and it requires consistency and transparency. Only one mistake can cause irreparable damage to a couple’s trust, so they have to keep working at it every day.

Strengthening trust in a relationship takes effort from both sides

To strengthen their trust, a couple must be vulnerable with one another and show each other that they’ll be there for support during hard times. On the other hand, when trust is broken, it can cause insecurity and doubt. This can also lead to emotional distance and increased conflict within the relationship.

You might think that you have good intentions, but it is not healthy to constantly try to force them to change their behavior. There is a fine line between helpful tips, unsolicited advice, constructive criticism, and criticism that undermines someone’s self-esteem.

By all means, share your wisdom if someone asks for your input. If you’re genuinely concerned about someone’s behavior, you can subtly bring the topic up. If their behavior is directly harming you and others, then you can speak about this more boldly and openly. But if the topic is something like your sister-in-law’s decision not to get married, the healthiest thing for everyone would be to accept and respect their choice.

That being said, we’re all responsible not only for setting and communicating our boundaries but also for protecting them and following through with any consequences. It is completely understandable why the post author’s sister got mad and started throwing insults around. However, this could have been handled differently and much earlier.

If you have a problem with how someone speaks to you or treats you, the healthy and mature thing to do would be to—in a very calm and friendly manner—ask them to stop it. Briefly explain to them how this makes you feel, set some ground rules for what you expect in the future, and if things are really bad, outline what will happen if they continue ignoring your boundaries. For example, if they keep belittling you, you could, say, reduce the amount of time you spend around them or stop inviting them over to your place.

No matter how old you are or how long you’ve been studying a particular subject, there will always be more to learn. And just because someone is younger than you doesn’t mean that they can’t teach you anything! It’s common knowledge that the Nazi regime persecuted and killed members of the Jewish community, as well as many other groups of people

The unfortunate reality is that there are some people out there who either deny that the Holocaust happened or deny some of the facts about the events. The Holocaust refers to the systemic mass killings organized by Germany’s Nazi Party, led by Adolf Hitler, and their allies and collaborators, during the Second World War.

The BBC reports that the main target of these killings was the Jewish population of Europe. The Nazis wiped out nearly 7 out of every 10 Jews living on the continent at the time. Six million Jewish people died in the Holocaust between 1941 and 1945.

The Nazis also killed and persecuted members of other groups of people, including:

• Roma and Sinti people
• Slavic people
• Disabled people
• Gay people
• Black people
• Jehovah’s Witnesses
• Political opponents

These are facts that any history teacher worth their salt should know. Or, if they find that they have some serious gaps in their knowledge about World War II, they should be willing to admit that they’ve made mistakes and then put in the effort to educate themselves properly.

The Holocaust Encyclopedia states that among non-Jewish groups persecuted and killed by the Nazi regime, its allies, and collaborators, around 3.3 million were Soviet prisoners of war, around 1.8 million were ethnic Poles, and between 250,000 and 500,000 were Romani.

Furthermore, the Nazis killed more than 310,000 Serb civilians. Among the victims were 250,000–300,000 people with disabilities, including at least 10,000 children; tens of thousands of German political opponents; and around 35,000 Germans imprisoned for being “professional criminals” or “asocials.”

Others killed by the Nazi regime include around 1,700 Jehovah’s Witnesses, thousands of gay and bisexual men, and hundreds of Black people in Germany.

In some countries, antisemitism is on the rise, compared to previous years

Antisemitism is on the rise in parts of the West. The Guardian reports that there were 5,500 antisemitic incidents recorded in the United Kingdom between October 7, 2023, and September 30, 2024.

This is 3 times more than a year earlier when the Community Security Trust recorded 1,830 incidents.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the situation is similar. The BBC notes that reports of antisemitic incidents have reached a record high.

The Anti-Defamation League Center for Extremism found that more than 10,000 such incidents took place between October 7, 2023, and September 24, 2024. This is an increase of over 200%, compared to a year earlier.

This technician found himself dealing with that exact kind of rude person while working at a bar with a private car park. A routine scaffolding and CCTV job turned into a bizarre standoff with a smug BMW driver who ignored repeated warnings, boxed himself in, and made his day much worse.

The police showed up after the BMW owner made a complaint, only for his missing document to make things much worse

The Original poster (OP) arrived early at the bar where he worked to wait for a scaffolding crew coming to work there. He dropped the barriers protecting the bar’s private car park from outsiders, went for coffee, and came back to find a smug man in a shiny BMW X5 parked like he owned the place. When the technician told him it was private parking, the man brushed him off because he was busy on a call.

The poster left the car park barriers down, went to pick up his coffee, and gave the driver a chance to leave like a normal person. Instead, the BMW owner stayed glued to his call, and when the technician tried one more time to warn him, he was rudely told to get lost. Soon after, the scaffolding lorry arrived, unloaded their mountain of planks, and got to work setting up the scaffold behind the building.

As they worked, it became obvious that the driver had made a really bad decision, as the car park was now sealed off by the full-blown construction site. The entitled driver eventually finished his call, wandered to a nearby office to do his business, and apparently assumed everything would be cleared by the time he got back. He returned to the car park an hour later, still blocked off.

The male Karen started whining and demanded to be let out, but the technician said he had been warned earlier and had refused to listen. This should have been the moment he accepted defeat, but he got aggressive instead. He shoved the narrator, then called the cops, claiming he was being threatened and trapped. Unfortunately for him, the bar had cameras, and the scaffolding crew backed up the technician’s version of events.

The day got worse for the rude driver. It turned out he had no insurance, road tax, or even a valid license. The cops let him drive just far enough to commit the offense, seized his car, and sent him off on foot to the bus stop. He ended up paying a hefty fine just to get his car back.

Since this whole mess unfolded in the UK, the BMW driver’s parking stunt was obnoxious, but the much bigger problem started the second he drove the car back out onto the road. In the UK, it’s illegal to drive without insurance, and the government notes that the police can impose penalties, seize the vehicle, and, in some cases, destroy it if someone is caught driving uninsured.

This also explains why the officers had to let him move the BMW before things escalated. The law states that the police can seize a vehicle if they believe it’s being driven by someone without proper insurance or a valid license. Once the man attempted to drive away, he gave them the legal grounds to take the car from him.

The financial fallout from all of this can be significant. The UK government’s enforcement guidance states that seized vehicles may incur release fees and daily storage charges in addition to any fines for being uninsured or untaxed. The rude man tried to dodge the cheap little parking fee and ended up costing himself far more.
